A New Exhibition by Condé Nast Traveller & Discover Puerto Rico | Condé Nast Traveler

From Rincon to Ceiba, Ponce to San Juan, Puerto Rico is as rich in the exuberant creativity that emerges from its local queer voices as it is in tropical landscape. Boricuan pride is about celebrating that culture, cherishing individualities and respecting the land, notions that have fostered a great deal of progress for LGBTQIA+ people there.

Working with Puerto Rican artist and photographer Cristóbal Guerra, Condé Nast Traveller UK proudly presents a snapshot of contemporary Boricuan queer culture as a traveling exhibition. Showcased during special events throughout Pride month in Toronto before moving onto London, the show features a selection of newly commissioned photographs captured by Guerra around the Boricuan island.

Featuring artists, fashion designers, athletes and more, Guerra’s series brings together a group of LGBTQIA+ people that each bring a unique perspective to the evolving nature of what it means to be Puerto Rican. Shot in their personal spaces and communities, these individuals are part of a rich tapestry of queer stories from the Island’s past, present and future. “What I observe now is a remarkable sense of collaboration among individuals who are determined to create projects that are truly their own. They embrace the art of doing more with less and strive to forge new paths within their respective fields,” says Guerra.

In addition to the images on display, a video projection captured by Guerra will illuminate the show space with the vivid shades of a Puerto Rican sunset.  The exhibition will debut on Friday, June 23 in Toronto, Canada at SPACE on King before heading to London on Friday, June 30 at The Stables, Covent Garden. Both events are open to the public, free to attend, and will include a special private view that will celebrate Puerto Rican culture, including gastronomy, music curated by DJ Lil C,  and cocktails provided by BACARDÍ.
