There’s something raw and authentic about skiing in the northeast. Whether it be for a long weekend accompanied by a group of your closest friends, family, or even alone from your home during a frigid winter in New England, skiing in the Northeast is for those who have a bond with the mountain that runs deeper than the snow itself. And sure, the western US has its perks—with bigger mountains and consistent snowfall, to those luxurious ski resorts—though that’s also why there’s an increasing number of tourists flocking to smaller western ski cities.) In any case, Northeast skiers, do not shy away from a few icy slopes—instead, we (myself very much included) embrace an identity centered around the love of the sport. When we say “Ski the East” (or see ski apparel telling us to), we have our reasons.
Take Jay Peak in Vermont, for example. In the heart of the winter, its legendary glades remain tight and technical—perfect for those who have spent seasons mastering the art of skiing in variable conditions. Or, New Hampshire‘s Cannon Mountain, home to steep, no-nonsense trails. Only the most seasoned athletes can conquer the deep icy moguls of this terrain. Whatever your level, though, there’s much more, below—whether you’re a city dweller trying to squeeze in some nearby runs, a traveler making a trip out east, or anyone in between.
These are the best places to ski in the Northeast. If you’re looking for winter vacation ideas on the East Coast with a bit of adrenaline and charming mountain towns, look no further.
